Kristel Rose Tedesco Residency

Kristel Rose Tedesco was a co-founder of Mathematics-in-Motion and an impassioned choreographer who loved to combine science and dance. Unfortunately, she passed away in January 2020. Without her presence and creativity, Mathematics-in-Motion would not exist and for that we are eternally grateful. In her honor, Mathematics-in-Motion created a residency in 2020-2023 that involved collaborating with us and choreographing a dance that took inspiration from mathematics and/or science.

Julie Galle Baggenstoss works nationally as a performing artist and educator in projects that explore the transatlantic roots of flamenco dance and music. She is a flamenco instructor for the dance program at Emory University, where she teaches improvisation, choreography, technique, and history as she learned from her teachers in Seville, Spain. She has 15 years of experience as a full-time teaching artist, using flamenco as a vehicle to teach subjects, such as social studies, literacy, and team work. With an M.A. in Spanish and extensive dance experience, Julie is a published scholar and international lecturer on flamenco. She is the executive director of A Través, a non-profit dedicated to flamenco arts and the founder of the Atlanta Flamenco Festival. She also co-founded jaleolé in 2004, a grass-roots organization that shaped and promoted the flamenco landscape in Atlanta for 10 years.

Rose Shields received her BFA in Dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2007. Hailing from Duluth, GA, Rose developed her love for dancing under the tutelage of Peter Garick at the Duluth School of Ballet and then with Danita Emma, Clay McCloud, and Michael Garrison at North Atlanta Dance Academy. In 2010, Rose was welcomed into Atlanta's circus community where she found her love for aerial dance and acrobatics. Living in Atlanta, Rose has had the privilege to dance with Bubba Carr, T. Lang, XCEL Talent, and Brooks & Company Dance. She was featured on ArtsATL as one of 30 Under 30 creatives in Atlanta. More recently Rose had the wonderful opportunity to work with Core Dance as a Dance Artist for 8 years. With Core Dance, she was able to tour and perform in Israel, France, and Poland and to collaborate with artists from around the world like Niv Sheinfeld and Oren Laor,  Amanda K Miller, Association Manifeste, and Germana Civera.   She currently choreographs and performs dance, acrobatics, and aerial as a freelance artist with varying local groups like Beacon Dance and ELEMENT Circus & Event Entertainment. Rose is excited to be selected as a resident artist for Mathematics in Motion. Rose enjoys researching and discovering where science and performance arts meet. Alongside her dance and circus work, Rose loves exploring outdoors with her husband, climbing, reading about science and fantasy fiction, supporting the local arts community, and spending time with family.
