Two of the presentations (Paula Apsell and Moon Duchin) are Public Lectures (co-sponsored by Georgia Tech), on Science Communication and Gerrymandering, respectively, and will be accessed via BlueJeans (not Zoom). Apsell will speak on Thursday, 21 October, at 4:00, and Duchin will speak on Saturday, 23 October, at 4:00. Although the speakers will be joining by video, an auditorium will be available for a live audience on the Georgia Tech campus.

Yes - Innumerable such transformations happen! And now, for the first time ever, the public has the chance to see mathematicians along with some of Atlanta's most creative artists performing some real numbers on the stage of the Highland Ballroom in this variety show where you will see mathematical comedy, poetry, music, fashion and more!

East Atlanta Village Strut & Sci-Cycle at Atlanta Streets Alive

Mathematics in Motion kicked off the fall 2019 season with this family fun festival in East Atlanta. We went back to our roots and combined math and movement. It was amazing to see how creative everyone was.

Mathematics in Motion was thrilled to be asked to set up at the Atlanta Streets Alive festival. This festival is for the cycling residents of Atlanta, with bikes, bikes, more bikes, and the occasional unicycle! So, we posed the question: is it possible to ride a bike with wheels that aren't round? Even square? We talked about this and about some "funky wheels" that roll just as nicely as circles. It was a day of learning and fun for all.

The Seven Bridges of Königsberg
Sep

The Seven Bridges of Königsberg

This performance worked on explaining the story of Leonhard Euler to the public. Euler studied whether or not it was possible to walk across the seven bridges of the city of Königsberg exactly once.  You can't, actually, but Euler went on to use the puzzle to launch the branch of math devoted to networks, known today as graph theory.

Choreographed by Kristel Tedesco in partnership with Georgia Tech and Mathematics in Motion, this work explains the story of the seven bridges. We are passionate about bringing math to the masses through the art form of dance!
